As part of our vision to grow Alamo City SC and provide a post-graduation pathway, we continue to seek top talent to fill our leadership and coaching positions. That said, Alamo City SC is excited to announce Peter Mulamba as the new Alamo City SC UPSL Men’s Head Coach.
When asked of the decision to make Peter the Head Coach of the UPSL team, Executive Director Rick Kuchka said that “Peter is a competent and capable coach. His passion for the game and willingness to grow as a coach and work on his craft make him preferable to many others who are set in their ways and resistant to change. He has the respect of the players and manages them well, which is extremely important at this level. I have the utmost faith in Peter’s abilities and feel he will have us competing for a Championship right out of the gate.”
Even though he has had a bit of an unusual path to the coaching world than most here in the States, this has not kept him from his passion of the game. Mulamba grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa and was recruited at 15 years old to come play here in America. “I grew up in a household of six boys that were recruited to play football here in America. I just wanted to follow in their footsteps and fulfil my dream of playing here in the States, so when the opportunity presented itself I jumped in and took the chance.”
Coach Mulamba steps into the Head Coaching role after a successful playing career at the collegiate level. Mulamba started at Brescia University in Kentucky where he was Newcomer of the Year after scoring 8 goals and tallying 4 assists as well, giving him a total of 20 points as a freshman. After one year, he transferred to University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley. His career was cut short by injuries, but this did not stop him from pursuing other avenues than playing.
“Obviously having the foundations of the youth club was important when I was looking to coach,” Mulamba says. “I loved the foundation Alamo City SC have built throughout their club, and I myself love to impact youth through the game of football. Football first and foremost, is a game to be enjoyed. I want to create an environment where lads can come and enjoy the game of football first. Through Alamo City SC already having the infrastructure to go to the UPSL, it has been easy with my connections and guys I’ve been able to recruit in order to get the ball rolling and kick off our inaugural season without any problems, and I couldn’t be more excited.”
“I just want to say thank you to the Alamo City organization for giving me this opportunity to continue my passion. Special thanks to my brothers and parents that have pushed me to and taught me the game of football. Also, a thank you to Paul Leese, Head Coach at UTRGV, for being a mentor and friend. His advice has been invaluable for not only the game of football but also life.”
Coach Mulamba currently resides here in San Antonio where he is going on 9 years here in the States. He will graduate in December of 2019 with his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Athletic Medicine.
Alamo City SC and Coach Mulamba kick off their inaugural season September 7thwhen they take on Capital City FC in the Central Heart Conference.
